Does anybody else remember the 80s horror comics?

I can't find them in the local second hand stores.

I thought horror comics died out in the 50s. (Many of those 40s~50s one are public domain now btw, you can read them at digitalcomicmuseum.com.)

^Yeah horror comics had their Golden Age in the early 50s,before the Comics Code was forced on them after some chump published a book affirming comics led to gang violence (sound familiar, gamers?).

Though in all frankness some of the covers were pretty darned gruesome...

In the 80s the most popular horror comic was Tomb of Dracula

Though the 70s had the awesome Creepoy and Eerie:

What I don't get about the whole comics code business is why everyone made such a fuss about "comic books", yet let "magazines" slide through unscathed.
...and on the same note, why did all those comic companies either go under or drop all their horror stuff instead of simply shifting it into a "magazine" format?

I remember Creepy. A friend of mine still have some of Chamber of Chills. Great stuff.

If I'm not mistaken EERIE/CREEPY were not affected by the Comics Code.

Yeah, because they switched to (came out as?) magazines instead of comic books, and were thus immune to the comics code business.

I want to get a full sleeve of horror comics imagery except that it is a lot of money. The line work alone is going to be expensive. Not looking forward to coloring or gray washing all those tattoos in several sessions.

Most of the artist used by Creepy/Errie/Vampirella were spanish up-and coming stars like Boris Vallejo or establisehed ones like Richard Corben:

Last one I recall was Elvira's house of mystery put out by DC.

Didn't last long and I'm looking for a couple issues.
