WTVD-TV Newscasts
Debut: September 02, 1954

WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville presently broadcasts 48 hours of locally produced newscasts each week (with 7½ hours each weekday, 4½ hours on Saturdays and 6 hours on Sundays). In 1973, WTVD first used the Eyewitness News brand for its newscasts wound be for the next 11 years. In 1976, Larry Stogner joined the station as a reporter. In 1981, Dave Boliek joined WTVD as reporter. In 1982, he was named the anchor of the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts. In 1983, Greg Barnes joined the station as the reporter for the Fayetteville bureau. In 1984, the station renamed the title of the newscast as WTVD 11 News. Also in 1984, Ed Crump joined the station as reporter. In August 1991, Chris Hohmann joined WTVD as weekend evening meteorologist. In April 1992, John Clark joined the station as anchor. In 1993, it renamed the newscast title as Newschannel 11. Also in 1993, Anthony Wilson joined the team as reporter. In December 1993, Chris Hohmann, moved up to do the weather for the weekday morning and noon weekday newscasts. In 1997, Dave Boliek left WTVD after 16 years. In June 1999, Steve Daniels joined the station as reporter. In 2000, the station changed its newscast back to Eyewitness News. One year later, in 2001, Barbara Gibbs joined the station as reporter/anchor. Also in 2001, Joe Mazur joined the station as sports reporter/anchor. In 2004, Tisha Powell joined WTVD as anchor. In June 2007, Chris Hohmann was named chief meteorologist, by doing the forecast for the 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts. On April 21, 2008, WTVD became just the second television station in the Triangle to broadcast its local newscasts in high definition. In January 2011, Don Schwenneker joined the station to do the weather for the weekday morning and noon weekday newscasts. On May 26, 2011, the station debuted an hour-long 4 p.m. weekday newscast. On January 23, 2015, after announcing he was suffering from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Larry Stogner announced his retirement, and then on February 6 of that year, he anchored his final newscast which was the 6 p.m. weeknight newscast. On October 2, 2016, Stogner died. In 2017, Brittany Bell joined WTVD as meteorologist where she would remain for 4 years. Also in 2017, Greg Barnes retired after 34 years at WTVD as reporter. On October 17, 2018, the station unveiled its ribbon-cutting of the renovated street-side studio in downtown Raleigh for its newscasts. In 2021, Ed Crump retired after 37 years at the station as reporter. On May 31, 2021, Don Schwenneker began his new role as chief meteorologist to provide the weather forecast for the 4 p.m. 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts. In Late July 2021, Tisha Powell left WTVD after 17 years. In Late June 2022, Joe Mazur left the station as sports director at WTVD. On September 11, 2023, WTVD launched an additional hour-long 10 a.m. weekday morning newscasts, anchored by John Clark & Barbara Gibbs and weather with Kwieyn Murphy.
