WVIT-TV Newscasts
Debut: February 13, 1953

Newscast has been on WVIT-TV New Britain-Hartford-New Haven since the station's first sign-on on February 13, 1953. In 1981, Joanne Nesti joined the station as reporter. Then a year later, in 1982, she was named weeknight co-anchor. In 1984, Mike Crispino joined WVIT as main sports director, where he would remain for 4 years. In late 1986, Toby Moffett joined Channel 30 as Nesti's co-anchor on the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts. Moffett left the station in 1990. In 1993, Gerry Brooks joined WVIT as anchor. On December 22, 2006, after 25 years, Joanne Nesti retired after anchoring her final newscast. On June 13, 2016, WVIT became just the second television station in Connecticut to debut a 4 p.m. weekday newscast, the same day the station debuts its new graphics and music for their newscasts. On November 21, 2018, after 25 years at WVIT, Gerry Brooks retired after anchoring his final newscast which was the 6 p.m. weeknight newscast. On June 7, 2021, WVIT debuted its 7 p.m. weeknight newscast, becoming the first and only television station in Connecticut to have a prime time newscast.
