KNTV-TV Newscasts
Debut: September 12, 1955

KNTV-TV in San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland presently broadcasts 37 hours, 25 minutes of locally produced newscasts each week (with 6 hours, 5 minutes each weekday, and 3½ hours each on Saturdays and Sundays). When Channel 11 signed on the air on September 12, 1955, the news department established. In 1971, Channel 11 rebranded its newscast titles as "News 11", which would remain for 14 years. In 1976, Maggi Scura joined Channel 11 as main anchor. In 1982, Doug Moore joined the station as main anchor. In May 1983, Brian Sussman joined Channel 11 as weathercaster. In 1985, KNTV rebranded its newscast titles as "KNTV News 11". In 1987, the station rebranded its newscasts titles as "KNTV News". In 1998, Channel 11 rebranded its newscast titles as "Newschannel 11". In September of that year, the station began producing an hour-long 10 p.m. weeknight newscast for then-WB affiliate KBWB-TV (now KOFY-TV). In January 2000, Laura Garcia joined the team. Becoming an WB affiliate in July 2000, Channel 11 increased its news programming; it retained all of its newscasts. The 7-9 a.m., 5:30 pm and 10 p.m. newscasts were dropped once KNTV became an NBC affiliate. And in January 2002, Channel 11 branded its newscast titles as "NBC 3 News". In 2004, the station rebranded its newscast titles as "NBC 11 News". In July 2007, Jessica Aguirre joined KNTV as lead news anchorwoman for 5 p.m., 6 p.m. & 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts. On July 21, 2008, KNTV became the third station in the San Francisco Bay Area television market to begin broadcasting its local newscasts in high definition. In December 2010, Raj Mathai (who joined the station in 1998 as sports director) was promoted to weeknight news anchor for the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts, by being Jessica Aguirre's co-anchor. In July 2011, Janelle Wang joined the team to replace Jessica Aguirre as Raj Mathal's co-anchor on the 5 p.m. weeknight newscast. On June 7, 2021, KNTV introduced two new weeknight newscasts at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. In addition at the time, the logo was modified, with the stripes of colors used in the NBC logo was added, and the news opens were also modified with the addition of "Moving You Forward" slogan. On July 5, 2021 (a day after Independence Day), KNTV began using "Look S" graphics. On September 12, 2022, KNTV launched a half-hour 4:30 p.m. weekday newscast.
