For most of its history, WTEN-TV in Albany-Schenectady-Troy has been doing its newscasts that provides news, weather, sports and more throughout the Capital District. In 1957, Ralph Vartigian joined Channel 10 as the station's first weatherman (who would later on co-anchored the station's noon weekday newscast). In the 1970s & 1980s, Ed O'Brien did sports reporting for Channel 10. In December 1989, Steve Caporizzo joined the station as chief meteorologist, to do the weather for the weeknight newscasts. In 1973, John McLoughlin was hired by WTEN-TV as a full-time political reporter. On September 21, 2009, Channel 10 launched its 4 p.m. weekday newscasts, with the hiring of Lydia Kulbida to anchor that newscast. On January 26, 2011, after nearly 40 years, John McLoughlin resigned from Channel 10 as reporter. On October 26, 2011, WTEN-TV became the second television station in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy market to upgrade its local newscasts in high definition. In September 2012, the station hired Trishna Begam as reporter/anchor. In 2017, Channel 10 hired Rob Lindenmuth as weekend meteorologist (who later moved up to weekday morning/noon meteorologist). On January 1, 2019, after over 30 years at the station, Elisa Streeter retired from journalism by anchoring her final newscast. In Fall 2020, Stephanie Rivas was hired by Channel 10 as weekend evening anchor and weekday reporter. In Fall 2022, WTEN-TV launched its own 9 a.m. weekday morning newscast, with Rivas as anchor, and Jill Szwed as weathercaster.
