WOIO-TV Newscasts

WOIO-TV in Shaker Heights-Cleveland launched its own news department on February 5, 1995, under the original newscasts titles as 19 News, with the 1st broadcasts of both the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. weeknight newscasts, with the arrivals of Denise Dufala and Emmett Miller as lead anchors, and Jeff Phelps as lead sports anchor. As for the weekend edition of those newscasts, which was anchored by Gretchen Carlson. In April 1996, Channel 19 branded its newscasts to CBS 19 News. On December 2, 1996, WOIO added both a morning and noon weekday newscasts. In October 1997, the station expanded its weekday morning newscasts to 5:30 a.m. In early 2000, WOIO rebranded its newscasts as Hometeam 19 News. On April 29, 2002, Channel 19 rebranded its newscasts as 19 Action News. In 2003, the station added a 5 p.m. weeknight newscast. In June 2004, the station added a 4 p.m. weekday newscast. In March 2015, Channel 19 rebranded its newscasts as Cleveland 19 News. At the end of 2016, Denise Defala retired from journalism by anchoring her final newscast. On April 8, 2019, Channel 19 rebranded its newscasts as 19 News.
