Anyone remember this store? In the late 80's and early 90's, we would always shop there and rent NES games and movies. I loved going to that store, because it had just about everything one needs, as it was almost like a Walmart. Unforantenly, they were closed down by 1991, in my area, and was replaced by a couple of small businesses until it became a LOWES.

Also, does anyone remember Montagomery Ward?

Both Phar-Mor AND Montgomery Ward's were fixtures of my childhood. My family would constantly be going on shopping trips in Ward's--we bought everything from furniture to shoes there. It was a great store and it was a bit of a sad day for me when it closed down (due to bankruptcy, I think) around 1999, 2000. This location we would always go to was in the Janaf section of Norfolk, Virginia. Phar-Mor was not too far away, in the area, and I remember buying my first makeup there (lip gloss). :)

I remember both of those. As a kid we would regularly go to Phar-Mor since it was one of the cheaper grocery stores and they would let you rent up to six movies at once. Montgomery Ward's though was a lot less common for me. Around Pittsburgh it seemed Montgomery Ward's were few and far between. Usually it was Sear's, Ame's, and Hill's for us.

I live in the Pittsburgh area myself and I remember a Montgomery Wards in the Beaver Valley Mall. I closed in the late 1980's. Being a firearms enthusiast, I remember them selling old military rifles like the SKS, Lee-Enfields and Mosin-Nagants, if I had an extra $100 at the time, I would have picked one up. IIRC, they had a snack bar too. I also remember the Phar-Mors too, they went under soon after the founder, Mickey Monus, was convicted of embezzlement. They were headquarted in Youngstown, Ohio and the Shapira family of Giant Eagle had investments in Phar-Mor as well.
