I read this book as a child and have recently found it again at a second-hand store and I purchased it. I have not read it again although I have made plans to do so. I first read this book in the 6th grade I believe. It is a book about a school that was planned on being 27 rooms horizontally and one story tall but instead the builder held the blueprints sideways and so he built a school that was 27 stories high and only one room in width lol.

Each chapter is about one of the stories to this mixed up and zany school. The story that I remember the best is about the strange child with many clothes. He takes off layer after layer until it is revealed that this strange child is actually a rat. Isn\'t that strange? Many stories are like that one.

Has anyone ever read this book or any of its sequels such as Wayside School Falls Down? If you would like to comment, please leave a response below or send me a Personal Message. Thank you.

I can't rerember the name of the third book as well. I read all 3. I like Ms Gorf and the mysterious 19th story thats not in the school but has a class were they all have to write the dictionary word for word.
I really loved those books, Luis Sacher is really creative, especially making himself the recess guy, cant think of the official title.

I loved those books! I still have my copy of "Wayside School is Falling Down". My favorite chapter is the one about "Joe" the boy who counted in the wrong order but always came up with the right answer and then, when taught to count the right way, always got the wrong answer! "Sammy" is the one about the rat, I believe....Brilliant!

Thank you for responding to my thread topic, Otown407Soldier and 1981til4eva. I enjoyed reading your memories on this memorable book series. I encourage others to post their memories. Otown407Soldier, I remember the mysterious missing story as well. It was a good addition to the book.
