I used to love watching TV Land. This was in the late 1990s, when they actually showed classic sitcoms and variety shows -- not like today, where they broadcast reality shows. My favorite shows were Petticoat Junction and Family Affair. I used to love the Retromercials too. I was so fascinated by the Retromercials that every time I saw a new one (one that was new to me, at least), I wrote it down in a little spiral notebook. I also enjoyed some of the TV Land promos -- such as the Twip commercials and 60 Second Sitcoms.

What does anyone else remember about the old TV Land?

MoreoOreos - Yes, I would do the same! Usually, they only showed about 1-2 Retromercials at a time, if that. Fortunately, we find many of them on YouTube now.

thecrow174 - I remember those Retromercials. TV Land introduced me to the Ty-D-Bol commercials and one for Chiffon margarine (It's not nice to fool Mother Nature).

TV Land is a big joke and nothing like it was when it first launched

I refuse to watch it. They will go to a commercial in the middle of scene and when they come back after 10 minutes of commercials, it is at the end of the show. They cut way too much out for commercials. They also sensor shows and remove words like fag and the n word. Didn't they also remove the Dukes of Hazzard after the confederate flag controversy and the Cosby show? They can take their corporate PC self and stick it. They are showing a lot of those old shows uncut on Showtime and Encore. They are also don't cut much on Antenna TV.

The TV Land that I remember is the one where they didn't show today's stuff like How I Met Your Mother.

TV Land was one of the reasons I had cable. But today I can watch MeTV for free.

I remember when tvland very first started and the only commercials they showed were fun retro ones. Gradually those got replaced by normal commercials, then they totally lost their shit and started airing new reality shows & other such garbage. That kind of scholck will NEVER be "classic".

I can't stand that it seems like it's the Everybody Love's Raymond channel.

Now I love The Golden Girls, but the repetitiveness of showing the same like six episodes in a row Saturday and Sunday every weekend reminds me of how WGN and TBS used to show like 8 episodes of Saved By The Bell 5 days a week and it was the same ones over and over.

I DID like that for awhile, Tv Land was showing The Facts Of Life. They stopped though. Then Logo picked it up. Then THEY seemed to have stopped. That happens often actually. I will find an older tv show like The Facts of Life, What's Happening!, Amen, 227, etc on a channel like Encore Black, Tvone, Logo, TV Land. They will show it for about a year, then stop. Encore Black went from showing two episodes of Different Strokes, an episode of What's Happening, two episodes of 227 and an episode of Amen, to just showing two episodes of Diffrn't Strokes, and two episodes of Good Times. Now it's Two episodes of Diffrn't Strokes, one of Good times, Boring Sanford and Son and a bunch of the Jeffersons.

I can't find Facts Of Life, What's Happening!, or 227 anywhere. 227 was on logo for awhile. I think I saw Amen on a random channel two weeks ago.

This turned into a rant. Pfft. Sorry.
                        :)

TV Land with Super Retrovision Saturdaze was awesome compared to the garbage today! Almost everything on TV land stinks!

Yes, I loved watching Super Retrovision Saturdaze! It was only on for a short time, if I remember correctly, in the spring of 1998 or 1999. I particularly liked the Brady Kids and Jackson 5 cartoons.

I often think the same about Nick at Night, and think man, they used to actually show OLD shows..like when it first started there were shows like 37-40 years old. Now it's like Full house. Then it suddenly occurred to me. We've all gotten older..Full House DID start like 30ish years ago..So it only makes sense that the shows we watched as kids on Nick at Night that were on when our parents were little, would turn into the shows that OUR kids would watch that were on when WE were little.

                                Alyssa,

Good point! I never thought about it that way but you're right. The Nick at Night/TV Land shows I'm nostalgic for now were only about 25-30 years old at the time I was watching them in the '90s.

Shows like "Younger" ruin the network's reputation.

At least Centric Still has family matters. Freeform still was going to show step by step again but that never happened.
