I actually miss PSA's, they added something special to the Saturday morning cartoon schedule and some had some really rememorable characters in them, these day's PSA's are a rare thing and are usually just psudo commercials like the "Truth" tobacco spots, true PSA's seem to be dead. I'll never forget classic characters like Woodsy, Readamore, Time for Timer and other rememorable characters that really stuck with me throughout the years, I credit them for me never becoming a druggy and becoming well read. LoL.

What do you guys remember about classic PSA's? Did you enjoy them as I did? It would be nice to read some thoughts on this topic since I'm feeling really "retro" right now and am totally wanting to relive my childhood, it's just a shame that today's Saturday morning crowd is lacking in the PSA department.

I still remember The Don't Dunk Your Food one. I really wonder just what kind of food dunking related disastrers were happening on such a scale we needed PSAs about not dunking food. Was there an outbreak of kids getting their hands stuck in glasses of milk somewhere back then?

I'll always remember the Oreo Dunking Disaster of September 11, 1986. Where 11,000 kids nation wide got their hands stuck, or shattered their glass, while dunking their Oreo cookies. Many stitches were handed out that day.

September 11, 1986. The TRUE day the world mourned. Never forget.

Speaking of Saturday Mornings, back in the late 60's and early 70's all the networks used their most popular cartoons as the basis for PSA's and behalf of Federal agencies, the Ad Council or many other organizations that wanted to connect to younger viewers.

I'm so sorry that few of these PSA's have survived.

Personally, I remember how NBC used their "Star Trek: The Animated Series" for the national "Keep America Beautiful" campaign, and for the "Boy & Girl Scouts of America" sponsorship.

Sadly, I can only find one example to like to. Please read the comments posted to the video:

eddstar: That's pretty cool. Now where was Chekov? All I see is a Jar-Jar Binks in his place. lol

Hm, now, PSAs...some I remember (especially the 80s) had really catchy tunes (despite being cheesy by today's standards). I used to like it.

DebrisStorm! I am shocked. Shocked! Offended, even. To so desecrate such a sacred day that will live forever in infamy. Shame on you. Shame!

Lol, yeah for reasons I don't understand Walter Koenig was not available for voice work and the decision was made to substitute a new character named Arex, he had three arms and three legs!

Bet he was a lot of fun at parties.

Sure wish there were more SatAM based PSA's I could link too but few were ever caught on VCR's and I'm guessing most will never be seen again.

Here is a repeat of the "Share The Ride" campaign ad sponsored by the Department of Transportation and the Ad Council. Although it's labeled 1980, I remember this from 1975 as a response to higher gasoline prices due to the 1973-1974 oil embargo:
