I don't think I've ever heard of The Hitchhiker. It seems like there were a lot of these anthology series floating around the 80s, early 90s. There was also the New Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Freddy's Nightmares, Friday the 13th series, and there was also this little obscure one I bought a tape of when a video store was going out of business. I can't remember the name of it, but the episodes were disturbing, but in a non-gory way. One was about a guy kept prisoner in an abandoned service station and another was about a guy who kept seeing himself appear on TV sets. Weird!
I wish someone in TV would have the imagination to put together another great horror themed anthology series with top-notch writing and acting. I loved Masters of Horror when it aired five years ago. I wish it could have continued for several more years. The Twilight Zone (2002), I had high hopes for but except for a few episodes I liked, it was a major disappointment.
The 50's and 60's were also incredible eras for the anthology series. The big one is of course "Twilight Zone", but my favorite is actually the more obscure but brilliant "Thriller" hosted by Boris Karloff. Has anyone seen this show?
