Especially for those who grew up in the NY ,NJ, CT and PA areas.

There we were as kid's during 70's -early 80's. Watching our favorite
afternoon cartoons on WPIX Channel 11 or Channel 5 WNYW.
Underdog? Tom and Jerry? Droopy Dog? Magilla Gorilla with Richochet
Rabbit? It didn't matter................There was no escaping it.................
every commercial break...............EVERY commercial break................
EVERY DAMN commercial break, there it was again, calling to you..........
calling to you............practically begging you...................with its lilting
jingle, designed one would think not only with the purpose of being memorable, but perhaps a sinister motivation of brainwashing, all you have to bring is your love of everything, all you have to bring is your love of everything, "ALL YOU HAVE TO BRING IS YOUR LOVE OF EVERYTHING.BEAUTIFUL MT AIRY LODGE!!!!!"

By now that damn jingle you fought so hard for YEARS to get out of your head has now returned thanks to this thread.

Wasn't just the jingle though. The commercial SCREAMED at you with an undertone of "WE -ARE-CHEESY, WE-ARE-10-15 YEARS BEHIND THE TIMES!! WE ARE SO LOW BUDGET IT'S PITIFUL!!! BUT COME AND STAY ANYWAY!!!!! NOTHING BETTER THAN "BEAUTIFUL MT AIRY LODGE"

Well my new friends here at retro junk may I say to you at this time for those of you who had your suspicions of Mt Airy Lodge over the years, wondering in so many ways, it couldn't have been THAT bad could it? Could it have been as bad as the commercials would have you believe?

Actually...........YES! and a WHOLE LOT WORSE! I've read reviews online you would not believe! Carpets not changed in 10 or more years, cigarette stains here and there, bugs ,bubblegum stains, stains*ahem* in the
heartshaped tubs never cleaned, general rust and waterstain rot here and there, dilapedated sporting equipment, beds falling apart, ceilings of bathrooms caving in, etc,.

Mt Airy Lodge finally closed in 2001-48 million in debt. One wonders if that was from unpaid advertising bills alone.

Allow me at this time to offer an informal hello to all, after giving the formal one in the chit chat hello thread. Look forward to sharing memories with you all, especially those of you who grew up on the northshore of long island,NY during the 70's, so as to share some local memories as well.

Any Mt Airy Stories, anyone, or do you wish to simply comment on your
remembrance of the commercials?

Sorry if I brought back a jingle to your head you wish you never heard in the first place

Can't remember the jingle at all... wait, I think I just remembered the tune to the part "all you have to bring is your love of everythiiiiiing." Right? And people are skiing and swimming and dining and stuff? Thought it sounded familiar. That commercial never bothered me. I think you need therapy. Help you repress it.

Thank You Sunriser , thanks to your post at least we have one response.
I AM being sarcastic with my criticisms and over the top, no therapy
necessary. Most people who remember the commercials whom I
talk with get what I mean with the comments I made.

It appears this is a much younger crowd here that is nostalgic about 80's
-90's, than 70's. Anybody that was a child growing up in 70's in the
NY area would know and understand the tone of my overall comments of Mt Airy Lodge. No biggie.

Onto the next memory and search for threads worth bumping.

Is anyone gonna upload a commercial for Mt. Airy Lodge? Even though I never went there in my life, and never saw the commercials, I'd like to see them here.

therapy in an open forum!

OH Mr3urious IT WOULD BE MY PLEASURE......if only I could.
I actually just sent away from the ONLY source I have found in a LONG pursuit of said commercials, that has two Lodge commercials in it .

Will need instructions on how to download such things though if I am
              to do it.

80's commercials.com I WOULD HIGHLY recommend this site to ALL retro
commercial fanatics. HIGHLY. Take a look you'll LOVE IT.

That commercial is forever burned into my brain cells. Can't believe that place closed down and was so run down. Hmm, I wonder what ever happened to Young People's Day Camp? Does anybody remember that commercial, which looked like it was from the 70's with this big smiley face. LOL

God now I'll never get that jingle out of my head. I lived in Pike county Pa right on around where NJ,NY & PA touch in the 80's. It was about 45min- an hour away Mount Airey Lodge and remember them constantly playing those damn annoying comercials. Then you had billboards, all over that area.

It really was a nice looking place. Back in the day that was the place to stay in the Poconos. I always wanted to go but never got to. I always wanted to try out one of the heart shaped tubs, even considered it for a vacation in 97 but never went through with it.

Funny how much that place ran down and how much debt was owed on it. Oh how the mighty have fallen. It's sad in a way.

I remember, also, that crappy game that kids used to play on WPIX...a kid would call in on the phone and say "PIX...PIX...PIX..." while this Pong-style game was happening on the screen. I also remember some contest that they were giving away a Herbie the Love Bug replica for...man I wanted that.

Oh my god!! I remember these commercials. They always had one of those low-budget feels to them. I'm from south Jersey, so I have a vivid rememberance these horrific ads. I also don't think they updated them in ages. Those people probably were watching the commercial they filmed twenty years ago and saying, "Why do they keep showing this?! I don't look like that anymore!"

You know, I was wondering why I hadn't seen those ads since high school (I graduated in 2001 from high school). 48 million dollars in debt?! Jeez, talk about your bad days.

What is it now, by the way?
