Especially for those who grew up in the NY ,NJ, CT and PA areas.
There we were as kid's during 70's -early 80's. Watching our favorite
afternoon cartoons on WPIX Channel 11 or Channel 5 WNYW.
Underdog? Tom and Jerry? Droopy Dog? Magilla Gorilla with Richochet
Rabbit? It didn't matter................There was no escaping it.................
every commercial break...............EVERY commercial break................
EVERY DAMN commercial break, there it was again, calling to you..........
calling to you............practically begging you...................with its lilting
jingle, designed one would think not only with the purpose of being memorable, but perhaps a sinister motivation of brainwashing, all you have to bring is your love of everything, all you have to bring is your love of everything, "ALL YOU HAVE TO BRING IS YOUR LOVE OF EVERYTHING.BEAUTIFUL MT AIRY LODGE!!!!!"
By now that damn jingle you fought so hard for YEARS to get out of your head has now returned thanks to this thread.
Wasn't just the jingle though. The commercial SCREAMED at you with an undertone of "WE -ARE-CHEESY, WE-ARE-10-15 YEARS BEHIND THE TIMES!! WE ARE SO LOW BUDGET IT'S PITIFUL!!! BUT COME AND STAY ANYWAY!!!!! NOTHING BETTER THAN "BEAUTIFUL MT AIRY LODGE"
Well my new friends here at retro junk may I say to you at this time for those of you who had your suspicions of Mt Airy Lodge over the years, wondering in so many ways, it couldn't have been THAT bad could it? Could it have been as bad as the commercials would have you believe?
Actually...........YES! and a WHOLE LOT WORSE! I've read reviews online you would not believe! Carpets not changed in 10 or more years, cigarette stains here and there, bugs ,bubblegum stains, stains*ahem* in the
heartshaped tubs never cleaned, general rust and waterstain rot here and there, dilapedated sporting equipment, beds falling apart, ceilings of bathrooms caving in, etc,.
Mt Airy Lodge finally closed in 2001-48 million in debt. One wonders if that was from unpaid advertising bills alone.
Allow me at this time to offer an informal hello to all, after giving the formal one in the chit chat hello thread. Look forward to sharing memories with you all, especially those of you who grew up on the northshore of long island,NY during the 70's, so as to share some local memories as well.
Any Mt Airy Stories, anyone, or do you wish to simply comment on your
remembrance of the commercials?
Sorry if I brought back a jingle to your head you wish you never heard in the first place
