Violent and sexy cult animated horror-fantasy thriller in the tradition of Lovecraft and hardboiled detective story about agents from different worlds like the real world and the black world (a realm of shapeshifting beings and monsters) as they had peace every 500 years and it's time to renew the peace treaty with the help of a horny yet wise old man who is ancient as hell but when a band of radicals from the black world are trying to kill him, it's up to the human agent and his female black-world partner to fight off these monsters.

I always loved this one since i rented it at 14 and has been one of my fave animated movies and anime films since, Yoshiaka Kawajari of Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust fame directs this one. There's some gore, sex scenes, a good storyline and amazing animation abound with unique Lovecraft and John Carpenter-esque monsters makes this one of the finest animated movies of the 80s.

This is one of the very few dvd's I bought. Is a must.

Talking about Spawn in other threads, this actually inspired some of McFarlane's designs.

I saw this years ago, as well as the live action version. It's good, but it's all border line porn and not for everyone.

Ah yes the Legend of the Overfine  boy was that a trip back when I was a teen and some buds of mine showed me that

But yea Wicked City was made in "87"really I didn't know that? Saw that one right around the same time I saw Legend of the Overfine, good anime. Liked how that guy had a freaking cannon for hand gun LOL. Since it's gone mainstream now it's gotten over cutsy and annoying it was better when it was very word of mouth and underground. Check out Gologo 13 ("just like the old NES game that came out in "88") on Netflix if you haven't seen that yet it's really good.

I think I still have the original Streamline Pictures VHS tape from 20 years ago somewhere in The Basement of Doom.

Anyone noticed how this movie borrowed from Lovecraft and The Thing?

I borrowed from a lot of things, and in turn influenced other people like Todd Macfarlane,Quentin Tarantino and even indie director Jim Jaemusch said he loved it.

That's awesome, but did you think of The Thing (1982) when you saw some of the creatures?
