So, I've been back on a cereal kick as of late and I began to think of all the different sugary cereals that have been introduced and marketed. We have the basic tie-ins (Fruity Pebbles), the obvious (C3POs), the absolutely insane as cereal (Cookie Crisp) and some of the more bizarre
(Mr. T's little Ts) . . . Which types do you remember? Where have Boo-Berry and Franken-Berry gone? Which cereals were the most obvious ploys to gouge parents of money?
Which were the best/worst/strangest?

By the way, here are some amazing cereal boxes . . . .

Nin-ten-do, it's for breakfast now! Actually I remember a Rocky Road cereal I really liked, but I don't know what happened to it.

Franken and Boo Berry are still around, you just gotta look.

my favorite cereal...i forgot what it was called, but it was shaped like little chocolate ice cream cones. WEIRD!!

eta: oh yeah, and i also remember some kinda oatmeal with gummi bears in it!

anything that had a toy at the bottom was something i HAD TO HAVE, therefore my parents had to waste their money on that sugary crap. (i wasn't spoiled, my parents just let me pick out my own cereal, lol)

the cereal could be called "farty-o's" and i'd want it for the toy.

I remember Rocky Road cereal as well! :)

In those days, with every cereal I ate, I'd always eat the marshmellows and leave the hard crunchy pieces. :D

Then when all the marshmellows were gone I'd say "Mom! We need more Rocky Road cereal!"

Sadly, I still can't find any Rocky Road when we go buy cereal.

The companies should bring it back.

I do remember those ice-cream cones and rocky road . . . As there is a market for retro toys and clothes, I wonder if there will ever be a market for retro-foods . . . re-releases of classic cereal? Who wants to form this company? I do! I do!:)

I remember when I used to love basketball, Michael Jordan playing for the Chicago Bulls, the good ol' days. I wasn't that young, although I was still losing teeth; I absolutly loved those Dunk-A-Balls. Little sugary basketballs of goodness! Actually, I don't recall whether it tasted like sheet or not, I didn't care, they were tiny basketballs you could eat!!!

I brought up losing teeth, mainly because my brother threw a marble into my Dunk-A-Balls without my knowledge, he was farting around with them at the table. So I ate away at my balls happily, and then I was startled in the (wtf?) sense. A marble in the cereal knocked my tooth out when I went to chew. I wasn't upset, I LOST A TOOTH!!! If that happened today though, I would be a little pissed-off, lol.

Wooster, you brought up Franken and Boo-Berry, and I can recall the odd yet delicious taste, and now I am craving some Boo-Berry. I am half tempted to try ebay, it may be gross, and the cereal may be expired, but I don't care, I CRAVE SOME FRIKEN BOO-BERRY!!!!

Great topic by the way! Keep em' coming!

A lot of time my family got the cereal in a bag (cheap stuff at the end of the aisle). It was actually pretty good except the lack of prizes, and I latter found that it's mostly just production overruns from some major cereal factories, so it kind of the same cereal.

              Some of my favorites:

              Crispy Rice
              Tootie Fruity Loops
              Fruit Pebbles

Care to guess what their box counterparts are?

Mikee . . . the Boo-Berry was cool in that the milk turned that weird blue color . . . my brothers and I always joked that it was that bizarre "blue milk" that Luke drinks with his aunt and uncle on Tatooine in Star Wars.

The worst cereal I ever had was Hidden Treasures. They tasted like Styrofoam. And you could tell which ones had the filling or not especially the grape ones.

I really liked Golden Grahams, Reese Peanut Butter Cereal, Cookie Crisp (cookies for breakfast? Far out!), Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter Crunch, Life (addicted as of this moment), and Coco Crispies (the one with the monkey on it). I never really went for the fruity cereals like Twix, nor did I go for Shredded Wheat.

There was a cereal documentary on the History Channel once that was quite interesting. I learned how cereal was made, and how the marketers manipulated little kids with sugar and toys into buying their cereals.

The cereal I hated the most when I was a kid was the GI Joe cereal.... just tasted wierd... similar to capn' crunch but not quite there....

Memorable ones were Nerds, Rocky Road, Strawberry Shortcake, Pac Man, American Fruity Pebbles (in Canada they changed in the late 80's.. they became these wierd pellets instead of the sweet colored special K like shape), Coacoa Pebbles, C3PO's, Coacoa Krispes, all of the monster cereals, Cookie Crisp, ahh I could go on and on :)
