Okay I was over at the Shout! message boards and someone asked about the possiblity of Kidd Video being released on DVD, I posted in that thread that if Kidd Video was released on DVD that it would have to be done in a manner similar to the way that Alvin & the Chipmunks has been released on DVD in volumes becuase of the song rights.

Later in the thread Brian aka Bward a member of the Shout! DVD team and the man behind getting a lot of our favorite 80's and 90's Dic releated toons posted: "While I'd love to see a show like Kidd Video hit the retail shelves, it would be a nightmare to license all of the music. The best thing going for it is that the songs aren't by the original artists, but that's only slightly cheaper. I just don't know that we'd be able to do it justice, because there would inevitably be songs that we couldn't afford. "

I remember that the live action actors perfromed original and licensed songs at the end of the show, but I also remember that when I saw the show on the Family channel that some of the music had already been replaced during the episodes themselves and some of the live action number had also been cut too, so I was wondering if there are any hardcore Kidd Video fans out there who know just how much of Kidd Video's music was original and how much was licensed, and also if Shout! did want to release the show would they be better off using the syndicated version rather than the original saturday morning versions?

Thanks dude, I posted the information about the music issues on Shout!'s message boards, hopefully they can find a way to use the syndicated versions of Kidd Video and get it released on DVD.

If Kidd Video does come on DVD, it's most likely going to be the syndicated version.

I've seen an episode once where they had replaced the original music segment(s) with something more modern and I personally felt that it subtracted something vital from the nostalgia of the original show.. One of the most memorable/best parts of the show were the 80's music theme that so many of us who grew up in that era have come to really appreciate and reminisce in our aging lives!

I have been using the internet for approximately 8 years now, and one of the things I have always been searching for were (original) episodes of Kidd Video. I have indeed been able to find and download a few episodes here and there, and recently through two different auction websites was able to buy Dvd's that someone had burned which contained episodes they had recorded on vhs at the original time of airing! Those dvd's really helped boost my collection, thankfully!

Note that in the episodes list there are three different versions of Episode 14 "the Dream Machine". The different versions have video segments from three different musicians of that time! Odd turnout that I happened to get all three because there are only two documented that I know of!

It's also interesting to note that I have two different version of episode 10 and that they're both virtually incomplete.. One IS complete, but is in French and I can't understand it.. The other one is just simply incomplete...

I don't know if they will ever come out with the original Kidd Video eps on Dvd, even if they do it would seem that there are many licensing issues as people are speaking about.. Whatever they come out with might very well be an altered version of what we remember, and is most likely going to dissapoint the original fans of the show. The young kids today that see whatever they come up with will not know what they are missing out on from the original show.. But then again, those kids of today might just hate 80's music, and would possibly be able to get a similar effect from the show if their own favorite music were in place..(?)
