You know, like back in '89 when the Tim Burton movie came out, and everyone and his mother had a Batman T-shirt? It was so huge, and yet it's one of the 80s fads that rarely seems to get mentioned. I mean, VH-1 did three versions of "I love the 80s" and it never got brought up ONCE.
I remember it well, I was about 11 at the time. My brothers, who collected comics, became Batman fans when Frank Miller did "The Dark Knight Returns", and I thought the idea of seeing a dark and badass Batman was pretty cool. So we were all really excited to watch it, and in my opinion at the time, it completely lived up to expectations. Loved it. That summer, I got Batman caps, Batman T-shirts, etc. It was like the rest of the non-comic book world was finally catching up to what Batman was really like- a dark crimefighter, not some guy in a campy tv show.
IMO, the Burton movie doesn't really hold up now, especially since Batman Begins came out and may have become the best superhero movie ever. But at the time it was a pretty big experience.
