For all you Scooby fans out here (and there), most of the time he enunciates most consonants and the like with an "r" sound (to emulate typical dog talk). But as the series wore on, he seemed to pronounce certain consonants correctly. This was evident in one episode of 1983's The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show, titled "Wizards and Warlocks." In one scene of this episode, there is a floor with the words "RHIRD REVEL - ROTS OF RUCK" - in traditional Scooby talk. But Scooby pronounced these words in normal human talk, saying, of course, "THIRD LEVEL - LOTS OF LUCK."

Sounds like it was done as sort of a joke...obviously one that's over the head of most kids.

Those cartoons were lousy with errors.

It had to be a mistake. Why did they make him talk like a human instead of his usual dog "speech"?

Good question, actually though i have no idea what Scoobys language is. I guess its dog talk, then again though why do the cartoons always partray scooby as talking and understanding what shaggy says if scoobys only a dog :?

I just assume it's a joke to make Scooby speak in a speech impediment (much like Donald Duck was), if only to sound more dog-like in the process (Astro on The Jetsons was of a similar nature).

It's also similar in the way Elmer Fudd speaks with w's ("Be vewy, vewy qwiut...I'm hunting wabbits)
