Okay, a while back my Dad, little brother and I were flipping channels and happened to stop briefly on some movie. Two men were having an argument, one of which had a large, bushy moustache.

The other guy said to the moustache guy, "I'm gonna rip that moustache right offa your face!"

The moustache guy replied, "Try it."

So the other guy did just that. And ripped half the guy's moustache off, so it was dangling all bloodied from his lip. They then proceeded to beat the living tar out of each other, at which point my Dad immediately changed the channel and said, "Just a little too violent."

After which we watched a Ren and Stimpy cartoon followed by the original Back to the Future.

The thing was, as violent as it may have been, my little brother and I thought this scene was hilarious. And it's stuck in our minds ever since. Except....we have no idea what movie it was!

Anyone out there have a clue? We have googled, imdb'ed, everything we can think of and can't find a reference to it ANYWHERE. Help me, Retrojunk Gurus, you are my only hope...

I have seen this movie before but at the time i cant reacall the name, i know it has the guy that played Pauly in the movie Rocky in it and its kind of a detective kind of movie.

Dude..........that sounds like the best movie ever. Fuck it, I'm gonna find out what it is and buy everybody a copy.

Yeah, it seemed like it was some kind of detective movie from what little we saw of it. Well, if you remember anything else, PLEASE let me know! So far this is the best lead I've had...hehehe

So, I might not have the right movie, but through some detective work of my own, I've come up with at least one title.
Since someone mentioned that one of the guys in the movie also played Paulie in Rocky, I searched Rocky on IMDB and found out that his real name is Burt Young. Then through random searches on google, I came across a biography that mentions he was on a made-for-TV-movie in the early 80s which was a spoof of detective movies. I don't know whether or not the movie you're talking about is supposed to be funny, but you mentioned your brother and yourself found it hilarious..so..
The title I have for you is "Murder Can Hurt You".
I wish I had more time to investigate, but that Burt Young has been in a lot of movies and I gotta head out to work soon.

Hehehe...I too, did some digging in Burt Young's filmography going on gumbyman's clue! :) So far, no dice. I'm sure it wasn't a comedy, this was a pretty serious/no messing around kinda fight scene. We just found it hilarious because of the whole moustache thing! :) It's become like one of our in-joke phrases that we quote randomly to each other. So it's funny to US, but I'm positive it wasn't a comedy.

But hey, I DEFINITELY appreciate the detective work! Hopefully we're on the right track and the mystery will at long last be solved...and we can watch the infamous moustache ripping scene over and over again. :D

The movie came out in 1980. Supposedly, 14 years later, he was in another detective movie, in a serious role, entitled "Columbo: Undercover".

Ok i have found the name of the movie, the name of the movie is The Choirboys.

Digging a bit deeper into my memory banks - I remember it being just two guys facing off against each other, it wasn't a whole crowd of people there. As I recall, they were in a grungy warehouse or similar kind of wide open, run down location. Also, the guy's moustache was a big, black bushy Mario-esque moustache.
