When I was in high school popular radio stations used to air comedy albums, sometimes in their entirety, late at night just for fun. One of the most popular was Cheech and Chong. Didn't hear your favorite? Just call up a local station and request a favorite C&C album.

My favorite was "Sister Mary Elephant". For a while you could hear "Sister Mary Elephant" all over the radio dial anytime after 1 am. Everytime I listen to it, I still have a tough time believing just these two men made this recording. By overdubbing their voices, Cheech and Chong made it sound like other people were in the recording. Simple and effective.

Youtube has a vid where a woman lip synchs to Sister Mary Elephant.
I think she did a good job of it too.

    This is "old school" stuff.
Do radio stations still air comedy routines today?
Or has youtube cornered the market in comedy clips?

sometimes you get a "zoo morning show" throw in old songs but that is few and far between nowadays. Hopefully Dr.Demento still exists. he was pulled off the college station here in michigan in I think 98 or 99 and it still pisses me off. Also ole Dr. D has a pay for play service on the webcast which I still listened to up to 2004 when they changed that other than that I would say christmas times they play humor songs on stations but, that is it.

How sad! When I was in college, late night Sundays were comedy album night on a couple of radio stations. You know - hard rock by day comedy reviews by night. Cheech and Chong, Richard Pryor, George Carlin and Flip Wilson to name a few. Seems to me that when "Saturday Night Live" started in 1975, the radio stations slowly lost interest in the whole comedy thing, or maybe it was the audience.

One station played old George Carlin albums from the 60's when he told conventional jokes. There was controversy because one DJ lost his job over airing comedy albums without getting the necessary OK's from the legal hacks. Even in the 70's I understood that playing a Flip Wilson album at home is one thing, broadcasting it over the AM band without prior permission was never a smart move.

Losing a job for playing some of the best comedic gold out there? That doesn't make any sense.

Oh it does when the album was one of Bill Cosby's. Funny man with awesome lawyers.

Remember kids, get permission first before you broadcast copyrighted material on the radio!

yes, Dr Demento still exists. his radio show isn't as widely syndicated as it once was but he has an interactive web-site. i don't listen to rock radio but i do know that his show was aired on a local rock radio station on Sunday mornings in Dayton, Ohio when i was radio station surfing and caught a comedy song and i kept the radio there and Demento came on talking about the song afterward. that was a few years ago...but i do know he still exists.

The closest I have heard are an entire cheech and chong album once or twice and when they do the yearly cheech and song talking about Santa Claus lol. Other than that the closest was when they did a twisted christmas album marathon.
                      :)
