As a kid, I spent every summer with my grandparents. One of the channels my grandma kept on was The Family Channel. She was a huge fan of westerns (still is) so I had to endure hours of "Bonanza" (which I came to like), "Big Valley", and "Gunsmoke" to mention a few. My faves were shows like "Maniac Mansion", "Gerbert", and "Superbook". These were Christian shows that aired on Sunday mornings. (Except "Maniac Mansion") I also used to love watching old Shirley Temple movies that came on every week. Now that ABC owns it, it's not as good. Ah, the memories........ :D

The Family Channel was one of those channels we use to watch before it first became Fox Family Channel, now ABC Family. Today its terrible programming and nothing family orientated. They had the old Christmas programming that ABC Family still airs, and I remember they showed the Three Stooges but they butchered it by editing the shorts to make the show last an hour. They showed three shorts. Oh and of course, good cartoons like Inspector Gadget, The Flintstone Kids, Super Mario Bros., The Littles. I miss the old Family Channel.

Secret Life sucks. Fox Family died when State Of Grace died.

I used to watch the Family Channel all the time as a kid. Most of what BenJamin mentioned, I used to watch on there. Some of the original programming too, like Maniac Mansion.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering right, but I seem to remember watching every Friday evening, back in the early 90s, from like 6:00 - 7:00 EST, maybe, The Family Channel showing this Popeye hour thing and sometimes Madeline. Does anyone recall this?

I only know it was the early 90s because I remember still being in Elementary school, and as a treat, my mother would allow me to have a Looney Tunes TV Dinner meal on Fridays for my dinner.

I remember it from the days when it was CBN in the early 80's.

I was very young when I would be watching the Family Channel back before it was renamed to Fox Family. I remember watching the Super Mario Bros cartoons on there since I was (still am) a big fan of Mario.

Another show I remember watching on the Family Channel is all about a dog competition, where people would enter their dogs to compete in obstacle courses. I don't remember the name of it though, it was something that my baby sitter would watch.

It was almost as bad as what AMC did to the Stooges when they had them in the late 1990s. AMC created intros with a fake school called NYUK university. Leslie Nielsen, Carrot Top, the dad from The Wonder Years and Anna Nicole Smith played professors who would introduce the shorts. It was so unfunny and annoying that I actually wrote AMC asking them to stop using the intros.

I think I remember shows like Big Brother Jake and My Two Dads and Punky Brewster and Webster being on there as well. But that could have been the USA network back then. Either way I definatly remember alot of these stations being ALOT different back in the day. Ahh...like back when Disney Channel was strictly bumpers in between shows and commercial free programing.

Up until the early to mid 1990s, Disney Channel was one of the premium channels like HBO, Showtime, etc. The only way I could ever watch it was during a free preview weeekend. The one show I liked back then was Avonlea. Later into the 90s Disney went to basic cable, but by then I had no interest.

I do remember them airing that Three Stooges special along with the Baldy Man. Bad idea. As for the AMC NYUK University, I use to watch that all the time when AMC aired the Three Stooges. And I will agree that the host segments with Leslie Nielsen were annoying but at times it had its moments. That would be a school I'd like to attend. Take tests on Three Stooges shorts, and I'm bound to get an "A". And the dad from the Wonder Years, his name is Dan Lauria (I just looked it up). I was really happy when Spike TV showed the Three Stooges but like other networks... they stop. By the way, I've been a fan of the Stooges since I was six. My dad introduced me to them on a VHS tape he rented one time.

I'll be uploading some Family Channel promos from the mid-90s somewhere down the line. I took a look at some programming from back in the mid-90s, and I saw that even back then, they were starting to break away from the "family" aspect of it, through airings of reruns of "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson" as well as movies like "Spies Like Us". You learn something new everyday.

I got hooked on the stooges thanks to my dad. He mostly worke monday thru friday, so he'd be up late on weekends. One time I came in and caught the Stooges a little after midnight.
Once I got a VCR, I started recording them, trying to get them all. It was pretty easy to keep track of, since Ch11 showed them in alphabetical order. Sure enough I ended up one shy of all 190, as Ch11 kept skipping over the Shemp short Mummy's Dummies. So I'd wait around til the next time they hit the M shorts, and they skipped it again. Then Ch11 stopped carrying it, and it went to AMC. After repeated viewings, the tapes degraded so my collection was lost.
Thank God Sony started releasing them on dvd in chronological order. Unfortunately though, they're almost at the Joe Besser shorts.

I have the first five DVDs. The last one I have so far is the one with the last Curly shorts and then Shemp steps in. I still haven't got the most recent DVD with more Shemp shorts. But when they get to the Joe shorts... no thanks. To me, and I know some will agree, Joe was no stooge. I use to record a few shorts on AMC and Spike TV. I still have my old VHS copy that my dad got for me, I had it since I was 6 or 7. It's still in good shape. It has Cash And Carry, No Census No Feeling, and Some More Of Samoa. But the ones I first saw were Three Little Twirps, Restless Knights, and Matri-Phony.

I remember the Family Channel one time doing a Sid and Marty Krofft mini-marathon sort of thing. That was when I was introduced to Lidsville and Sigmund and The Sea Monsters. I was already familiar with H.R. Pufnstuf because I saw the movie Pufnstuf first before I saw the TV show. I will say that even though it's bizarre (to me its the writing), but I'll still watch it. In other words I think its an OK show.
