One of my all time favorite child stars was Jonathan Brandis. I found out he committed suicide a few years back and was shocked! I don't remember seeing or hearing anything about it. My favorite films starring him were "The Neverending Story", "Sidekicks", and "Ladybugs". I know he did some t.v. as well....He was really talented and cute. It's a shame we lost him at such an early age. :(

I really liked him too. Had a huge crush on him when I was a kid. I had a crush on Brad Renfro too from Tom and Huck and sleepers, but he recently passed away also.

Whoa.....I had no idea that's how he died. Did anyone else hear about this way after the fact? Other actors I had no idea were gone were the guy that played Rembrandt in "The Warriors" and the little girl from the movie "Savannah Smile". That is one of my favorite movies.

Brandis i found out the month it happened.

Now that about Rembrandt i didn't find out till the 2005 special edition of The Warriors came out.

What's really fucked up is that it was a rumor a whole decade before he did it.

Same with Steve Irwin, but that was just betting on the numbers really.

I also always heard the same rumor about Zack Morris... they were inter-changeable.

Apparently the news for this broke about the same time we invaded iraq in 2003 and they didn't really focus much on his death. At least that is what I have seen people who supposently knew him post in response to the lack of media attention on his death.

I just happened to be looking up one of his movies probably a week after it happened and saw that he had died.

One that I had no idea had killed himself was Charlie Rocket, the guy who played the husband Ted in "Earth Girls Are Easy" and was on Saturday Night Live and a bunch of other things like the dad on "Hocus Pocus".

I read Brandis had auditioned for the role of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode II...but obviously he lost the part to Hayden Christensen. I'm guessing this played a part in his suicide, as he was hoping winning the part of Anakin would really help him reboot his career...and loosing the part probably helped cause him to sink into depression.

From what loved ones say he was a very sweet guy but also very complicated. He had an interesting sense of humor and liked to play jokes on people. He was also very shy and was very, very hard on himself alot of the time. He was his own worst critic. It's very sad. He seems like he would have been a nice guy to get to know.

He should of just done voice acting.

Seriously. There is so many actors that do that, B and indie actors. It's easy money and way less work.

I read that his appearances in the movie Hart's War was cut and that might have been what drove him to do it.
