i watched wrestlemania this year. first wrestling i've watched in at least a year (i don't remember if the last event i saw was last mania or the one before), so i was completely out of the storylines. however, oddly enough, i was able to understand the goingsons without much trouble!
i thought, overall, it was a pretty poor show. not the least of the reasons were that it was sucha momentous anniversary, 25 years, and nothing special took place. then, there was the dreadfully slow pace to most everything.
the ladder match was awesome. probably the best of the night. some really fun spots. typically, i expect these types to be my least favorite, as its very much a "oh, you wanna be at mania too?" type match, with all the left overs thrown in. but, the energy was really high for this one, despite a few blown spots. the fans clearly wanted christian to win (i didn't even know he was in the wwe anymore), but still fun to watch
the diva bout was silly. even sillier than it should have been. so silly, they didn't even get mentioned or entrances, and there were a few girls in there making a special appearance after a few years. also, seemingly a waste of santino, who i think is pretty funny.
old guys vs. jericho was boo. snuka looks like he's gonna die. piper looked about the same as always: drunk and fat. flair looks somehow a million times worse than he looked last time he wrestled regularly. steamboat... was fucking awesome! steamboat fought jericho for a good 10, 15 minutes, and hit a number of good moments. i don't think he's wrestled in 15 years, but he not only did "wow, you're 60 and still good" good, but actually good, as in better than most of the current roster, still. mickey rourke then did his best piper impression to end the segment.
hardy match was meh. seemed the same as their 1,000 previous matches.
jbl / mysterio was a joke.
taker vs. michaels was the only match i was interested in. it was really good, but somewhat slow. i think my main criticism of the match is an unfair one: i was expecting it to be amazing. and, really, it wasn't. it wasn't bad, but it wasn't close to as good of a match as i wanted it to be.
hall of fame / austin segment was exactly what you'd expect
cena, show, edge. a pretty good match for what it was. unlike the taker/hbk match, i expected little from this and was surprised by how much better it was. some cool spots with cena lifting both show and edge on his shoulder. i wasn't paying attention / couldn't hear all that well, but it didn't seem at all like cena was being boo'd like he used to be. has that changed / lightened?
hhh / orton was "boo". incredibly slow, crowd was way out of it, somewhat predicatble... just, generally, disappointing and well below (1) what these two could have done and (2) what a wrestlemania finale, particularly wm25, should have been
