Re-Animator

Movie Summary

Released: 1985
Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) is a brilliant medical student who has perfected a green-glowing serum for regenerating the dead — or even parts of dead things. But a corrupt superior, Dr. Carl Hill (David Gale), assumes control of West's experiments and winds up, by ghastly necessity, having the stuff used on his own severed head and body. West and in-over-his-head co-worker Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) struggle to control the now out-of-control effects of the serum, but the bone-saws and zombies complicate their plans.

This is Jeffrey Combs first film. He later starred in "From Beyond", and had a cameo in "The Frighteners" with Michael J. Fox. Bride of Re-Animator was, unfortunately, one of David Gale's last film appearance. He died from complications during open-heart surgery and is often given acknowledgment in the film's bonus commentaries.

One of the best cult movies in it's genre, Re-Animator was re-released in 2002 in a Millenium Edition, 2 disc pack, loaded with Feature Commentaries, Video Interviews, Extended and Deleted Scenes, Trailers, Biographies, and Multi-Anlge story Boards. A must for all who love campy, witty horror flicks!!

Both Reanimator and from Beyond are based on lovecrafts works. And the same director did a movie called dagon also based off some of lovecrafts stuff. And Reanimator is one of my favorite films of all time. Great stuff. Classic.

Where else are you going to see a severed head going down on a woman strapped to a table? Classic!

"Who's gonna believe a talking head. Get a job in a sideshow."--Dr. Herbert West..

One of my favorite movies of all time. Never get sick of it.

I first saw this on a rare boring day in Manila, Philippines and was laughing so much at the cartoon gore people around me moved away.....lol.
Very "loosely" based on the Lovecraft story (he was too much a prude to even THINK of having a severed head give oral sex to Barbara Crampton!!) but it's still fun.
I also noted a strange set of double standards seeing this where I did. The movie was censored. All nudity was crudely air brushed out but the gore left intact!! This is compounded by the fact that the cinema was surrounded by "go-go" bars where you could pick up a girl (or boy, if that's your thing) for about $US10/ night!...go figure....
Funniest dialogue to me is when West tells the hero he had to kill Dr. Hill: "Herbert, you gotta stop DOING these things".......
